We are very excited to share some great news with everyone: The Living Room by Octave has won Interior Design Magazine’s 2015 Best of the Year Award in the Community category.

This is the second major international award for The Living Room, after winning an award for design from Fast Company Magazine in October. These awards come from the international version of these magazines, not the China version.

Founded in 1932, Interior Design is one of the world’s most influential design magazines. Winning one of their Best of the Year awards is one of the top honors you can get in the field of interior design.

Every year, Interior Design receives thousands of submissions for award consideration. They then invite designers and architects throughout the world to vote on the nominees. A panel of top professionals then selects the winner in each category.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of ID’s Best of the Year Awards. There were over 2,000 entries in over 100 categories. Among the other competitors in the category was the much-talked-about revitalization of Canada House in London’s Trafalgar Square carried out by Stantec, a project which was officially re-launched at a ceremony featuring Queen Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Living Room by Octave is a flagship wellbeing center created by architect Calvin Tsao, principle of TsAO & McKOWN based in New York City. This 21,500 square-foot adaptive-reuse center represents a new vision for development in China, joining under one roof are wellness programs, F&B, and a small-scale urban farm focused on sustainability. It uses architecture to inject much-needed communal space into Shanghai’s former French Concession.
